Fall Fashion: Tips, Tricks & Trends

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, Fall is finally here, and you know what that means. It’s time to say ‘until next year” to your shorts, t-shirts, lightweight fabrics, and array of sunglasses. Summer, it’s been fun. Bring on the thicker fabrics, spiced lattes, and stylish boots.

Though I ‘m excited for early autumn, we’re now in that weird space where you can’t fully predict the weather and you’ll catch guys outside in a hoodie or fleece jacket with shorts and flip flops. It’s already a head scratcher just off the description alone. Personally, I think early fall is a time to keep your look light, minimal, and incorporate mild elements of the season before going full out.

Tip

Be smart about how you transition your closet between seasons. Make the effort to slowly switch out fabrics as we move further into fall and build around those pieces. Keep t-shirts with a neutral shade ready and available in your closet. You can start layering them with crewneck sweaters, lightweight cardigans or over shirts this way it will be a progressive transition as the weather changes.

Trend

If you’re looking for something new to add to your closet, consider upgrading your traditional flannel button down to a weighted overshirt.  It’s a great dupe for a jacket. The flannel shirt has become the tell-tale sign that you are in the fall season. So, let’s use this year to try something new.

Trick

A great alternative to the t-shirt and flannel combo is wearing a long-sleeve Henley. A good Henley is an effortless item that you don’t need to overthink to make stylish on you. Personally, I prefer a Henley that’s made with a thicker cotton and is ripped. The texture of this shirt brings an interesting layer your wardrobe.

Tip

Invest in a good fall boot. There will always be a place for some stylish sneakers in any wardrobe but with the arrival of fall it means Winter is coming so let’s swap out your slides, vans, and loafers for a quality boot. If your curious about what options to consider it would be nice to have a suede, nubuck but if your really feeling bold invest in a leather wingtip with plaid wool inlay.

Trend

Choose striking colours. Fall is the one time of the year when designers introduce some of the richest colours and textures in fashion. Some of the trending colours for Fall 2021 are:

Indigo

Plum

Hunter Green

Clay

Warm-Brown

Violet

Lemon Yellow

Teal

Thicker textures and silhouettes play a more important role in adding additional depth and character to an outfit. To really make it work for you, anchor your look with neutral basics like:

-       Denim

-       Leather

-       Corduroy

-       Wool

-       Fleece

-       Sherpa

-       Tartan

-       Tweed

-       Gabardine

-       Suede

-       Cashmere

-       Herringbone

Trick

Use this season to play up your dapper side. Fall is a great time to bring suits and other workwear staples back into rotation after a summer of dressing more casually. Ease the transition by pairing a blazer with a fitted white t-shirt, a fresh oxford button down with a vest and leather bomber jacket. Have fun with it.

Whether it’s the return of boots and jackets, Halloween festivities, or just kicking back and watching a basketball game, there’s a lot to love about the fall season. I hope you’ll use this time to also find love for your wardrobe. Fall is an opportunity to reassess and step up your style game up.
