What’s Trending: Summer 2022

Gentleman the season many of you have been waiting is finally upon us, summer is weeks away and I for one am excited to be back outside. If you’ve been following my blog than you’ll remember last year I posted a summer survival guide. I provided tips on how to beat the heat and maintain your look while you do it. Summer is also a time when designer’s like to push the envelope and see how daring they can make menswear for the season. Some trends are a hit and others can miss the mark.

Now, let’s be honest summer and fashion don’t always go hand in hand for most men. Some guys live by the philosophy sun’s out, guns out. The weather’s given them the opportunity to let the world see that they’ve been in the gym and their gains need to be acknowledged.  These guys are… special, and we wish them well. Other men can easily become overwhelmed because there are less layers to incorporate into their look and don’t know where to begin.

So, to help you get ready for a new season I’ve chosen some items that can help you with style this season. These items aren’t must haves, but they reflect what you can expect to see a lot of when you are shopping. I can honestly say I’m curious to see which of these trends will dominate over the summer, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

Short Shorts

It’s no longer just for the ladies! Designers have taken a drastic adjustment to a summertime classic, and this year a “couple of inches above the knee” has a whole new meaning. I feel like several brands are operating with an anything-goes mentality. Gap, Lululemon, Old Navy and ASOS have already begun putting them on full display. So, if you've been eyeing an especially thigh-exposing pair, consider this all the justification you need to finally smash the buy button.

Summer Knits

I would like to go on record and say that knit wear is officially no longer a seasonal trend but a wardrobe staple. Summer isn’t always an idyllic haze of warm days, sunny skies, and blistering temperatures. There are times where a quality knit can make ALL the difference. When shopping for one there are some things to keep in mind invest in something loosely woven, avoid anything to chucky as that will trap in heat and make sure it’s a neutral colour so you can match it with most of your summer items.

Loafers, Mules & Clogs Oh My!

Sneakers and Birkenstocks will never fall out of summer rotation, but for 2022 it’s all about the loafers, mules, and clogs. Now, personally I’m really shocked they made such a comeback in fashion. Every time I’ve tried them on, I feel like an overworked sous-chef or a medical professional doing rounds. But I can totally see the appeal of them, brands like JW Anderson, Farfetch and Mr. Porter have some subtle styles that aren’t too severe and can flow seamlessly with the right type of pant.

Stacked Jewelry

As I mentioned earlier, designers are switching things up this year, and this includes the jewelry game. Stacked jewelry is basically layering numerous pieces of jewelry for a chic stylish look. If you’ve ever dabbled in bohemian style than you’ll get it. I love this trend because I’ve invested in some amazing pieces and damn it, they will be seen! The best thing about this jewelry style is that there are no rules and regulations. In simple words, anything that looks appealing and stylish can be blended for a unique look.

As always let’s keep the conversation going and let me know what you think about these trends that are about to be everywhere. Is there. Trend that I missed that you’d like to further explore. Are you a gun’s out kind of guy or are you still trying to figure out what your summer look will be?
