Stylish or Trendy: What Type of Guy Are You?

Most guys have a look, whether it’s simplistic, developed or in shambles everyone’s got one. But have you ever taken a second to think about what your look says about you? Are you the kind of guy consistently rocking the newest drip, or are you at your best in your favourite sweatsuit? Either way my best advice is to see where on the spectrum and build from there.

The Trendy Guy

  • Forever in the mall

  • Always buying the latest pieces chasing the next trend

  • His style can never exactly be pinpointed

  • Never seems comfortable with his look, constantly picking or adjusting his clothes to maintain the “look” he’s trying to emulate.

  • Often times his look is incredibly loud and riddled in logos and patterns

I’m trying to be nice, but these looks best describe the Trendy Guy

Does it make a statement? Is it the latest and greatest? These are the criteria that the Trendy Guys keeps in mind when shopping or putting together his look look.

The Stylish Guy

  • Confident in his choices

  • Knows what works well and looks good for his body type

  • Familiar with the trends but he isn’t quick to jump on everything

  • Builds an effective wardrobe by mixing classic and trendy pieces to create a style that’s true to who he is

  • Creates subtleties by playing with the colour palate, the fit of clothing and incorporating modern accessories that help to elevate his look

  • Picks trends that will compliment his look while keeping it modern

Truth be told most guys fall somewhere in the middle, and no one’s going to knock it out of the park every time. But it’s important to not be afraid to try new things, get a feel for what works for you and don’t be shy to try new things.

Don’t go crazy though! If you' never patterns before don’t jump out the window and start mixing and matching all over. If you’re the type of guy who’s only wears neutral colours think about incorporating more earth tones like Hunter Green, Brick Reds, Yellow Ochre or Burgundy. If you’re the kind of guy who’s weary about patterns than go slow and try subtle pin stripes, monochrome and checkered board patterns.

Lastly, have fun! Building a style requires trying new things, finding a comfort zone, looking past the fads and realistically merging the past and present so you’re not looking crazy in these streets.

Best of luck guys!
