Make It a Valentine’s Day You’ll Both Enjoy
As Valentine's Day approaches, I often wonder what most guys think about it. Are guys stressing over the perfect gift? Do men have anticipation about how the day will go? Ultimately, do men really care about Valentine's Day? Stereotypically, Valentine’s Day is solely about showering women with affection, flowers, gifts, and chocolates. The assumption is that men are less sentimental is an archaic opinion that deserves to be debunked. Men, like women, experience a spectrum of emotions and appreciate expressions of love and affection.
Just as women have diverse views on the significance of Valentine's Day, men, too, hold varied opinions. Some may cherish the opportunity to express their love openly, while others may prefer more subtle, year-round gestures. I was never someone that cared much about Valentine’s Day. I couldn’t be bothered to compete in the over-the-top theatrics of the day.
Society often places an undue burden on men to orchestrate grand gestures and the pressure may lead to misconceptions that most men are indifferent to the occasion, while they may feel overwhelmed by societal expectations. Also, the focus is solely placed oh heterosexual relationships and not much consideration is given to same sex couples.
So, I’ve come up with a couple of ideas that are sure to make Valentine’s Day enjoyable for both you and your significant other.
Playing Hooky
We’re all familiar with usual gifts like flowers and chocolates but I’m pretty sure most guys would prefer something a little more their speed. Understanding your partner's preferences is key to making the day meaningful for both. One suggestion that’s easy, affordable, and enjoyable to both is my personal favourite playing hooky.
Think about it, taking a day off unplugging from your devices and enjoying the day with your significant other. Ordering your favourite dishes, if you wanna get fancy maybe have a private chef come by and cook a nice meal. Whatever you want the options can be endless.
Take a Dance Class
Why not use Valentine’s day to challenge yourself with a dance lesson? these stereotypes and explore the genuine sentiments that men may have towards this love-infused occasion. You’re never too old to learn how to dance, and for many dance lessons are a freeing and liberating form of expression. Consider researching dance studios in your area some great options are ballroom dance, salsa, cha cha, samba or mambo. I promise you spend the night connecting, laughing and leaving more connected than when you entered.
A Night of Conversation
It’s often said you have to work at staying in love and to truly understand whether your partner cares about Valentine's Day, open communication is crucial. With the demands of day-to-day life, there’s no time to talk with your partner and reconnect about why you fell in love or articulate what you appreciate about them now. And what better time to do that than on Valentine’s Day. To make it more fun you can make index cards with questions to prompt conversation topics too.
Plan a Photoshoot
Some men may appreciate low-key celebrations, while others may enjoy grand gestures, my advice. Do something to remember the day like a photoshoot. For a lot of couples, photos are usually taken casually on dates, vacations or a special event. Hire a photographer and make a day of it. But most importantly actually print them out and display them in your home. Make this a new Valentine's Day tradition.
Ultimately plan activities you both enjoy, whether it's a cozy movie night, a home-cooked meal, or a weekend getaway. Focus on building shared memories rather than adhering to societal norms. Take the opportunity to express your love in a way that feels genuine to your relationship. A heartfelt conversation, a simple note, or a personalized gift can often mean more than traditional tokens of affection.
In the end, the answer to whether men care about Valentine's Day lies in the individual. It's essential to break free from stereotypes, communicate openly with your partner, and tailor your celebration to reflect the unique dynamics of your relationship. Whether grand or understated, Valentine's Day can be a special occasion for couples when celebrated in a way that resonates authentically with both partners.
